Description

Alocasia Sarian is a hybrid of Alocasia zebrina and A. micholitziana. It features leathery, wavy-edged, arrowhead-shaped, dark green, upward-pointing leaves. The leaves have wide, bright white main veins and long, thick, striped petioles.

Alocasia Sarian will thrive in bright indirect light. It loves humidity and if it doesn’t get enough, it might have problems unfurling its leaves. A humidifier, pebble tray or grouping plants together can help you raise humidity, for instance. Water this Aroid deeply but infrequently. Alocasia are susceptible to root and basal rot infections especially when overwatered.

Alocasia Sarian is a rather fast-growing houseplant that can reach a giant size of more than two metres. If you want to keep your Alocasia happy, you should keep it in a very well aerated potting mix that dries out completely between waterings. Jewel Alocasias are susceptible to root and basal rot infections especially when overwatered. Give your Alocasia the best head start at your home with our Alocasia Potting Mix, which we developed specifically for these plants and will help them grow better and faster.

Alocasia Sarian can undergo winter dormancy like other Alocasia. So, during the winter months, you should water it less if it stops growing. Between March and October, fertilize this houseplant regularly and keep in an environment of 18–24 degrees.

Alocasia Care Tips

Light

Put your Alocasia in a spot with bright indirect light.

Water

While Alocasia are rather thirsty, too much water can cause root rot and ultimately lead to the death of your plant. This is why you should never let your Alocasia sit in water (e.g. standing water in the saucer). When the top 3cm of soil are thoroughly dry to the touch, it is safe to water again.

Please note: Jewel Alocasia as are far less tolerant of constantly wet soil than the other, thinner-leafed Alocasia varieties. Be particularly careful not to overwater them!

Humidity

Alocasia tolerate moderate humidity of around 50%, but they will thrive better and grow faster in higher humidity from 70%+.

Soil

Use our soil-less and well-draining Alocasia potting mix if you want to make your Alocasia truly happy! Alocasias love it airy around the roots, so a loose and ideally soil-less mixture will work wonders.

Toxicity

All Alocasia are toxic to humans and animals when ingested.
